At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, the
Sausalito Police Department received an alert from its
license plate recognition cameras of a stolen vehicle entering Sausalito from the 4000 block of Bridgeway. The vehicle, a 2016 Lexus, had been stolen in San Mateo on May 12.
Police officers responded immediately and conducted a comprehensive search of the area. At approximately 4:40 p.m., Officer Honour Knudsen located the Lexus driving northbound in the 4000 block of Bridgeway. Officers stopped the Lexus on Gate 6 Road and detained the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 27-year-old resident of Sausalito named Harry McHugh. Further investigation led to McHugh being arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle.
Since the City of Sausalito's license plate recognition camera system became operational on May 18, 2017, 20 stolen vehicles have been recovered, leading to the arrest of 26 individuals.
