Mayor Ian Patrick Sobieski has a Ph.D. and MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, and a BA in Philosophy, as well as a BS in Aerospace Engineering, from Virginia Tech. He is a founding board member of the Angel Capital Association and is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the National Eagle Scout Association, and the National Ski Patrol Alumni Association. Ian served six years on the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels of San Francisco. He is a Lifetime Member of the Sausalito Cruising Club.

Professionally, Ian is the Chairman of the Band of Angels (the “Band”), the first and most prestigious angel investing group in the United States. Since its inception, the Band has invested into, and mentored, founding entrepreneurs behind 300+ startup companies, helping to create more than 5,000 jobs. He has served on more than 20 boards of directors and has been a speaker, lecturer, and commentator on entrepreneurship and startup issues in the Silicon Valley and nationally. He is the author of a dozen technical publications and is a former Lecturer in the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at the University of California at Berkeley.

Ian is an active sailor, skier, hiker, biker, and adventure traveler.
