The Role of the Planning Commission

Meetings

  • The five-member Planning Commission typically meets twice per month on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 420 Litho Street.
  • All meetings of the Planning Commission are open to the public.
  • The Planning Commission regularly holds joint meetings with the Historic Preservation Commission.
  • Planning Commission meetings may be viewed live via webcast or as video recordings beginning on the day after a meeting takes place.
  • Meeting times and agendas may be viewed on the meetings and agendas page for the Planning Commission.

Membership

  • There are five at-large commissioners.
  • Commissioners must be Sausalito residents.
  • Commissioners must be appointed by the City Council.
  • Commissioners may not serve on any other appointed City board or committee, except for those positions specified by the municipal code.
  • The City Council encourages residents to apply to serve on the Planning Commission; if interested, please fill out an application form.
  • The term length is three years, with a maximum of two terms.
  • A member may continue to serve after her or his term expires, until a new member is appointed.

Liaisons

  • Because of the importance of the Planning Commission, there is no single City Council liaison.
  • The staff liaison is the Community Development Director.
