About Animal Control in Sausalito
- The proximity of Sausalito to the beautiful Golden Gate National Recreational Area means our citizens and their domestic animal companions will be exposed to a variety of local wildlife.
- To help protect our wildlife, ourselves and our animals, the City of Sausalito has a number of Municipal Code sections regarding animal control.
Sausalito's Leash Law
- Animals are required to be leashed in many areas of Sausalito.
- To report a dog off leash, please call (415) 289-4170.
Barking Dogs
- A barking dog can be an annoyance, however it might not be a police matter at first.
- There are some criteria to consider before calling the police; please consult the Sausalito Municipal Code section on habitual animal noise before you call.
Lost and Found Pets
- Marin Humane maintains a stray animal hotline that is updated every night after 6:00 p.m. and includes animals brought to the shelter during the previous 48 hours.
- You can also search the lost and found database on the Marin Humane website or call the hotline at (415) 883.4621 (x377 for dogs, x378 for cats, x379 for all other lost animals).
Animal Emergencies and Animal Removal
- Emergencies involving animals should be reported to the police department by calling 9-1-1 or (415) 289-4170.
- For assistance with wildlife animal removal (dead or alive) please contact Marin Humane at (415) 883-4621.
