Temporary No Parking signs may be used to reserve necessary parking space for a specific event, including residential moves, tree trimming, or similar needs.
Construction-related temporary No Parking signs are generally used for material storage or delivery, parking for equipment, etc. and are issued by the Department of Public Works and require an encroachment permit.
Temporary No Parking signs are required to inform the public that certain parking space(s) are being reserved for a specific event, and that vehicles parked in the posted spaces, during the specific date(s) and time(s) posted on the signs, will be towed to clear the parking space(s).
Temporary No Parking signs are not intended to be used to park personal vehicles.
Issuance of temporary No Parking signs is regulated by the Sausalito Police Department.
How to Apply
The Parking Office is closed to the public and no longer processes applications in-person.
Applications may be submitted electronically by email.
Send an email to Sausalito Parking Services (parking@sausalito.gov) with the following details:
Your Name.
Your Address.
Contact phone number and email.
Reason for posting signs.
e.g. moving, tree work, etc.
Number of signs required.
A single parking space is approximately 18-20 feet in length.
Metered spaces require an additional meter reservation fee.
Address / Location where signs will be posted.
Effective date(s) and time(s).
e.g. May 1 to May 6, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.
Prepare payment:
To pay with a credit or debit card download and fill out the Card Payment Authorization Form and submit that along with your email request.
Submit your request no less than one (1) week prior to the effective date requested.
Signs must be posted and verified seventy-two (72) hours prior to the effective date.
Posting Temporary No Parking Signs
The City does not participate or provide assistance with posting temporary No Parking signs, any additional materials are the responsibility of the requestor.
Signs may be posted using string/twine, cable ties, tape or other temporary adhesives.
Check with the property owner first before posting signs on someone else's property.
Temporary No Parking signs:
must be posted and verified seventy-two (72) hours prior to the effective date or they will not be enforceable.
shall be posted such that the effective date(s) and time(s) are clearly visible to the driver of a vehicle (i.e. not too low or too high).
shall be placed in a legal parking space, which includes residential and commercial street parking spaces and metered spaces (metered spaces require an additional daily fee).
shall be valid only for the approved dates/times printed on the signs, and may not be extended without additional approval.
shall not supersede existing parking and traffic regulations, including posted disabled-access parking spaces, Blue, White, Yellow or Red Curb zones, or where existing No Parking signs are present.
shall be removed within eight (8) hours of the end of the posted effective dates/times, or as soon as possible.
Once the temporary No Parking signs are posted, call the Sausalito Police Department at (415) 289-4170 to request the signs to be verified.
During the verification process a Parking Enforcement Officer will inspect the signs and contact you if there are any complications.
Temporary No Parking signs posted/verified less than seventy-two (72) hours in advance, or un-verified signs will not be enforced.
Fees and Payment
Request and pay for temporary No Parking signs in advance, please provide no less than one (1) week for processing of your request.
Temporary No Parking signs posted in a non-metered parking space cost $3.00 per sign, per day
For example, tree trimming in a residential neighborhood using two (2) parking spaces for two (2) days would cost $12.00: ($3.00 per sign) x (2 spaces) x (2 days) = $12.00 total.
Temporary No Parking signs posted in metered parking spaces require an additional Meter Rental Fee which varies by the time of year, for example:
A residential move between May 1 to September 30 each year, using two (2) metered parking spaces for two (2) days would cost $120.00: ($3.00 per sign) x (2 spaces) x (2 days) = $12.00 for No Parking signs ($27.00 per meter) x (2 spaces) x (2 days) = $108.00 for Meter Rental.
A residential move between October 1 to April 30 each year, using one (1) metered parking space for three (3) days would cost $76.50: ($3.00 per sign) x (1 space) x (3 days) = $9.00 for No Parking signs ($22.50 per meter) x (1 space) x (3 days) = $67.50 for Meter Rental.
Calculate the total amount due and submit a completed Card Payment Authorization form along with your email request, once processed you will receive an email to schedule a pick up from Sausalito Parking Services, located at the Sausalito Police Department at 29 Caledonia Street, Sausalito, CA.
