This week, staff from the Parks and Recreation Department began the process of spreading
organic compost at the City's parks and fields. The dark and rich compost brings valuable nutrients to soil and increases its moisture-holding capacity. The results should be visible for all to see as we move from winter into spring.
One cubic yard of compost is required for every 1,000 square feet of turf. For Dunphy Park, this meant that 60 cubic yards of compost were needed to cover a lawn area of approximately 60,000 square feet.
Any questions about the use of compost on City parks and fields may be directed to Parks and Recreation Director Mike Langford at mlangford@sausalito.gov.
