The Sausalito Police Department, in coordination with other Marin County law enforcement agencies, is now distributing free evacuation tags to be used during evacuation emergencies like a fast-moving wildfire. When evacuating their homes, Sausalito residents are asked to display these tags in a highly visible location, such as their front door, mailbox, garage door, or front gate.
Posting an evacuation tag can help first responders save valuable time during an emergency by alerting them that a home has already been cleared.
Tags may be picked up at department headquarters at
29 Caledonia Street between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please use the call box outside the building for access to the lobby. Residents are encouraged to take extra tags to distribute to friends and neighbors.
Keep your evacuation tag in your
go bag or next to your front door so you will be able to post it on short notice. Remember to also sign up for
AlertMarin and
Nixle to receive location-specific information before, during, and after an emergency.
Additional information about the evacuation tags and their role in an evacuation may be found in a
two-minute video created by our local law enforcement agencies.
Any questions about the evacuation tags or emergency preparedness may be directed to the Sausalito Police Department at (415) 289-4170.
