City Council Expects to Adopt Housing Element by January 31

Post Date:01/13/2023 2:30 PM

At a special joint meeting with the Planning Commission on January 12, the City Council reached consensus on a plan to adopt and submit a 2023-31 Housing Element by the state deadline of January 31, 2023.

On January 26, the City will receive a review letter with comments from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on the draft version of the 2023-31 Housing Element and associated appendices.

Under the plan articulated by the Council, councilmembers Joan Cox and Janelle Kellman will collaborate on a revised draft of the Housing Element that addresses the comments and concerns raised by HCD in the January 26 letter. The Council will then hold a special meeting on Monday, January 30 to discuss the revisions, hear public comment, and formally approve a 2023-31 Housing Element for submission to HCD on January 31.

Mayor Melissa Blaustein and her fellow councilmembers extended their thanks to the members of the Housing Element Advisory Committee (HEAC) for getting the City to this stage in the Housing Element process. The final meeting of HEAC was held on October 13, 2022.

Any questions about the City's 2023-31 Housing Element may be directed to Community and Economic Development Director Brandon Phipps at bphipps@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4142.
