At a special meeting on Monday, November 13, the City Council will hear an appeal of the Planning Commission's approved design for improvements to the plaza, pathways, and parking lot at the Sausalito Ferry Landing.
The 6:00 p.m. public hearing will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers and via Zoom and is expected to last approximately three hours.
The appeal was filed by a group of 42 local residents that includes architects Michael Rex and Jacques Ullman from the team of local design professionals who crafted the preliminary design for the project.
The City Council considered the preliminary design in March 2022 and approved the development of construction-level drawings for eventual referral to the Planning Commission for design review.
The Planning Commission reviewed the design plans at meetings in July and September 2023. By a 3-2 vote, the commission ultimately approved a design review permit for a modified project with a new configuration for bicycle queuing, a smaller plaza area, the loss of fewer parking spaces, and other changes.
Grounds for the appeal cited by the appellant group include concerns about the Planning Commission's approved design related to queuing, access routes, plaza size, and bicycle parking, among others.
The agenda for the November 13 public hearing includes links to a staff report, a supplemental appeal letter, staff and appellant presentation slides, project plans, written public comment, and a variety of other supporting documents.
The project is funded by a $2.4-million Federal Transit Administration grant administered by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District.
