About the Sewer Rate Increase
- At a public hearing on June 18, 2019, the City Council voted 4-1 in favor of an increase to the City's sewer rates
- The Council received five protests from residents and parcel owners; in compliance with state law, 1,751 protests (50% of property owners + 1) were required to remove the item from consideration by the Council
- As approved, the City's sewer rates will rise by an aggregate of 4% per year over the next five years, with new rates going into effect on July 1, 2019
- The first payment for most customers will appear on the property tax bill due in December 2019
- Funds generated by the higher rates will make it possible for the City to make capital improvements that are necessary to continue to maintain compliance with Clean Water Act requirements.
