The Role of the Housing Element Advisory Committee
The Housing Element Advisory Committee is a Council-appointed committee consisting of ten members and is an advisory body serving the Sausalito community through the Housing Element Update process. The HEAC supplements the community input provided at public workshops and will provide feedback and guidance throughout the Housing Element process.

Members of the public who are interested in participating in the Housing Element process are encouraged to register as a stakeholder.
The HEAC, working with the Project consultant team and City staff, has the following roles and responsibilities:
- Review and provide guidance to City staff, and the consultant, on goals and policies related to the update of the Housing Element.
- Ensure sufficient public outreach and stakeholder input regarding the Housing Element update, including innovative ways to reach multiple segments of population/stakeholders.
- Provide assistance to the Department with seeking grant funding opportunities and provide the Department with grant writing assistance to close the budget gap on the cost of the Housing Element Update.
- Relay information from consultant to City Council regarding technical expertise and new state legislation, and provide benchmarking with other Marin communities.
- Work with staff to dialogue with the County on potential for collaborative approaches.
- Identify possibly pathways to one hundred percent affordable housing projects in Sausalito.
Meetings
- The committee shall meet regularly on the 4th Monday of each month.
- All meetings of the committee are open to the public.
- Meetings may be viewed live via webcast or as video recordings beginning on the day after a meeting takes place.
- Meeting times and agendas may be viewed on the meetings and agendas page for the HEAC.
Membership
- Two members from the City Council.
- Two members from the Planning Commission.
- Five members and one alternate who are Sausalito or 94965 residents and appointed by the City Council.
- The committee is an advisory committee only; input will be forwarded to the City Council for final action.
Term Length
- The Sausalito Housing Element Update is a two-year process. The Housing Element Advisory Committee is a limited-term committee appointed only to provide recommendations throughout the update process. At the completion of the Housing Element Update, the committee will be dissolved.
