General introduction to Fort Baker/GGNRA task force mission
Developing the Fort Baker Historic Boat Shop and MarinaThe Golden Gate National Recreation Area has a three phase development plan for the Fort Baker area, which includes the land and facilities currently associated with Travis Marina, Presidio Yacht Club, Mike’s Place bar, and the Horseshoe Cove pier.
Phase One was the Cavallo Point Hotel (completed). Phase Two will be developing and rehabilitating the Fort Baker historic boat shop and marina. Phase Three, at some point in the future, will be the development of the waterfront. The GGNRA is now beginning phase two.
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area has accepted "expressions of interest" from various potential partners for its plans to renovate the presidio area of Fort Baker as well as Travis Marina. (This area is in the Sausalito "sphere of influence.") Six broadly-stated plans, each with varying ambitions and goals, have been received. The GGNRA is currently reviewing these expressions of interest to determine its path forward.
The City of Sausalito appointed the Fort Baker Task Force to keep abreast of the changes unfolding in this process as they may significantly impact not only this area near our city but also our city itself. The task force has assembled this web site to keep the public informed with this ongoing collection of current information related to the Phase Two Fort Baker development plan.
The task force is also seeking informed input from residents of Sausalito. We encourage you to read the rather brief 6 expressions of interest as well as two (and any future) newspaper articles about the proposed changes to the Fort Baker area. We are including links to the GGNRA expressions of interest and articles* from the Independent Journal and the San Francisco Chronicle. Additionally, other important related links are included.
After reading this material, please share your thoughts with the task force and City Council via this forum, designed specifically for that purpose. Now is a critical time for us to receive your feedback. We know the expression, "we value your input" sounds trite, but we sincerely do!
If you wish to subscribe to updates from this task force, please contact Debbie Pagliaro (dpagliaro@ci.sausalito.ca.us) and request updates from the Ft. Baker Task Force. And finally, please visit this site periodically as the task force will update it as needed.
