About the 2018 General Municipal Election

• Registered voters living in the City of Sausalito cast ballots in a General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018
• Sausalito voters voted to elect two members to the City Council
• Sausalito voters also voted on two local ballot measures, Measure L and Measure M

Ballot Measures L and M

• On July 31, 2018, the Sausalito City Council voted unanimously to place Measures L and M on the 2018 November ballot

Measure L

For the voters of the City of Sausalito whether or not to approve raising the transient occupancy tax rate charged to hotel guests by 2% to improve essential City of Sausalito services.

Measure L reads:

“City of Sausalito Hotel Tax/Tourism Mitigation Measure. To address the effects of tourism by improving traffic enforcement for pedestrian, cyclist and driver safety; managing the number of bikes, buses, taxis; reinvesting in local businesses; and other essential city services, shall an ordinance raising the transient occupancy tax rate charged to hotel guests by 2% be adopted until ended by voters, providing additional $300,000 annually, with independent audits, all funds used locally in Sausalito?”

 All registered voters within the City of Sausalito will have the opportunity to vote YES or NO.

Measure M

For the voters of the City of Sausalito whether or not to approve a business license rate update ordinance for fairness to businesses of all sizes, to maintain city services all funds to be used locally.

Measure M reads:

“City of Sausalito Business Tax Equity Measure.  To maintain city services, including police protection; fixing streets, sidewalks, and storm drains; supporting local businesses; and other general services, shall an ordinance simplifying Sausalito’s business license ordinance for fairness to businesses of all sizes, be adopted until ended by voters, updating business license rates to $125 per business and between $1 - $3 per $1,000 of gross receipts, generating approximately $896,750 annually, requiring audits and all funds used locally?”

All registered voters within the City of Sausalito will have the opportunity to vote YES or NO.

Important Deadlines

• October 22, 2018: Last day to apply for a vote by mail ballot, by mail from Registrar of Voters
• November 6, 2018: Election Day. Election Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• December 6, 2018: Election certification. Deadline for the Marin County Elections Office to certify the election results

Register to Vote

• Residents who have moved or changed their name must re-register to be eligible to vote in future elections. Postage-paid, pre-addressed registration forms may be obtained from any post office, city/town hall, public library or fire station in Marin County.
• You may also register to vote online via the California Online Voter Registration website.

Register to Vote in Person

• Residents may also register to vote in person at the Marin County Registrar of Voters' Office. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is (415) 499-6456, and the fax number is (415) 499-6447.
• If you have moved or changed your name you must re-register to be eligible to vote in any future elections.
