Nearly four years of hard work culminated in the unanimous adoption of an updated General Plan by the City Council on February 9, 2021. As a blueprint for the growth of our community over the next 20 years, the new General Plan will play an essential role in guiding future decisions about development in Sausalito.

June 2017 saw the first of over 40 meetings of a General Plan Advisory Committee appointed by the City Council. Their efforts, together with the those of community members, City boards and commissions, and successive City Councils, would eventually contribute thousands of volunteer hours toward the development of a General Plan that hadn't received a comprehensive update since 1995. A dedicated consulting team from M-Group helped lead the process for the City.

The updated General Plan includes two new chapters. The Waterfront and Marinship Element provides focused attention on Sausalito's varied waterfront environments from north to south. The Sustainability Element was crafted in concert with the Sustainability Commission and provides a series of policies and programs that address sea level rise, climate change, and resiliency.
