Latest Update

August 26, 2022

Following a settlement agreement with the Sausalito Homeless Union, the Marinship Park encampment was officially closed on the morning of Tuesday, August 16. As of that time, all people who were encampment residents earlier in the month had relocated to temporary indoor housing.

Under the agreement, 30 individuals will be eligible for a rehousing stipend of $18,000. The Sausalito Homeless Union is responsible for managing the funds and ensuring that former encampment residents are placed into appropriate long-term housing, with the assistance of a housing coordinator provided by the City of Sausalito.

Marinship Park will be closed indefinitely to everyone while the City's Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments work together to assess and restore the park. The City will repair the tennis courts, replace any missing or broken items in the park, and remove all trash from the area.

The City is actively seeking funds from the State of California and the County of Marin to offset costs related to the encampment and the settlement agreement.

Questions about homelessness in Sausalito and the settlement agreement may be directed to City Manager Chris Zapata at (415) 289-4166 or czapata@sausalito.gov.
